Hydrangea, often known as hortensia, is a flowering plant genus with over 75 species native to Asia and the Americas. Eastern Asia, particularly China, Korea, and Japan, has by far the most species diversity.

The majority are 1–3 m tall shrubs, but some are small trees, and some are lianas that climb up trees to reach heights of up to 30 m. They can be deciduous or evergreen, though the temperate species that are frequently farmed are all deciduous.
