Join us on a 6-day tour through the historical villages of Japan, where we’ll uncover the charm, culture, and unique traditions of some of the country’s most captivating spots. This isn’t your typical Japan tour – it’s a deeper dive into Japan’s rich past.
Our itinerary is full of hands-on experiences and local traditions. Try your hand at Kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending pottery with gold, watch an authentic geiko performance up close, and enjoy the delicate flavours of sake crafted by local brewers. You’ll also join a traditional tea ceremony, savour the unique tastes of Shojin Ryouri (Buddhist cuisine), and explore the craft of metal casting.

Day 1: Hey Adventurer, Welcome to Kanazawa!
Strap in for a ride you won’t forget!
We’ll meet you at Kanazawa Station under the iconic Tsuzumi-mon Gate at 9:00 AM. From here, we whisk you off to start exploring. First up, we kick things off with a Kintsugi Experience from 10:00 to 11:30 AM. Learn the art of mending pottery with gold—turning flaws into beauty!
Next, we dive into the bustling Ōmichō Market from 12:00 to 1:30 PM for a seafood extravaganza. Fresh, local, and oh-so-delicious! Explore the market’s wide variety of fresh seafood, local produce, and traditional Japanese snacks.
In the afternoon, step into the refined world of geishas with a Geiko Experience at Asanogawa Enyukai Hall from 2:30 to 3:30 PM. Then, wander the atmospheric Higashi Chaya District from 3:30 to 5:30 PM, soaking in the charm of traditional teahouses and narrow streets. Visit Geisha House Shima, Kanazawa Asanogawa Enyukai, and the Ochaya Art Museum.
As the day winds down, enjoy a delightful dinner from 6:00 to 7:30 PM with your fellow adventurers.
Day 2: Discovering Kanazawa's Hidden Gems
Good morning, adventurers! Today’s all about diving deeper into Kanazawa’s rich tapestry.
First stop, the intriguing Ninja Temple from 9:00 to 9:45 AM. With its secret passages and hidden traps, it’s a history lesson with a twist! Explore Myouryuji, known for its hidden staircases and trapdoors.
Next, we explore the Nishi-Chaya District from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, home to glamorous geiko and beautifully carved teahouses. Wander through the charming streets and soak in the traditional atmosphere.
At 11:00 AM, we head to the Naga-machi District to walk through a historic samurai residence. Visit Kanazawa City Ashigaru Museum, a reproduction of two valuable foot soldier residences from the feudal era.
After a lunch break from 12:30 to 1:30 PM, lose yourself in the serene beauty of Kenroku-en Garden from 1:30 to 2:30 PM, one of Japan’s most celebrated gardens. Enjoy meticulously landscaped beauty and serene water features.
Then, experience a traditional Tea Ceremony from 2:30 to 3:30 PM that’ll soothe your soul.
We wrap up with some free time from 3:30 to 6:00 PM to explore Kanazawa’s amazing museums like the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art or the Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art before dinner at 7:00 PM. Rest up—tomorrow, we head to Shirakawago!
Day 3: Shirakawago’s Timeless Beauty
Morning, explorers! Today, we journey to the enchanting village of Shirakawago.
At 9:00 AM, travel through picturesque landscapes to arrive at this UNESCO World Heritage site by 10:30 AM. Wander through the iconic thatched-roof houses and soak in the rustic charm.
After lunch from 12:30 to 1:30 PM, visit the serene Ainokura Gassho-zukuri Village from 2:00 to 3:30 PM for more jaw-dropping views. Explore traditional gassho-style farmhouses and learn about the local culture.
In the afternoon, we make our way to Takayama, arriving around 4:30 PM. Check into your cozy hotel and enjoy a delightful dinner at 7:00 PM. Relax and get ready for another exciting day!
Day 4: Takayama’s Traditional Charm
Rise and shine! Today, we explore the heart of Takayama.
Start with the lively Takayama Morning Market from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, where fresh produce and local crafts abound. Sample regional specialties like Hida beef skewers and grilled rice dumplings.
Then, embark on a Guided Walking Tour of Takayama from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Wander through the well-preserved Edo-period streets, visit historic merchant houses, sake breweries, and the Sanmachi Suji district.
After a delicious lunch from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, experience a Sake Tasting from 2:00 to 2:30 PM that’ll warm you from the inside out. Enjoy free time from 2:30 to 5:00 PM to explore the historic district, visit Takayama Jinya, or the Takayama Showa-kan Museum.
At 5:00 PM, we travel to Toyama, arriving around 6:30 PM. Dinner will be waiting at 7:00 PM, so relax and enjoy!
Day 5: Discovering Inami, Toyama
Good morning from Toyama! Today’s journey takes us to the charming town of Inami, renowned for its exquisite woodcrafting heritage.
Begin your day by exploring Inami. You can immerse yourself in a wood carving workshop, or simply wander through streets adorned with intricate wooden sculptures, showcasing the town’s rich artisanal tradition.
Later, immerse yourself in a Shojin Ryouri Experience, savoring the flavors of Buddhist vegetarian cuisine.
Day 6: Exploring Takaoka's Heritage
Today’s journey takes us to the historic city of Takaoka, where tradition and innovation harmoniously coexist.
Begin your day with a leisurely stroll along the Doraemon Walking Road, adorned with bronze statues of characters or the beloved anime. Take in the playful ambiance and discover Fujiko F. Fujio’s heartfelt message board, a testament to his affection for Takaoka.
Next, wander into the Kanayamachi district, a cradle of Takaoka’s foundry industry since 1611. Marvel at the Takaoka Great Buddha, a majestic 16-meter-high statue at Houtokuzan Daibutsuji Temple, and explore the serene grounds of Zuiryu-ji, a national treasure famous for its exquisite Zen temple architecture.
You can also visit Takaoka Old Castle Park, a sprawling urban oasis built on the remnants of Takaoka Castle. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings, complete with a zoo and the opportunity to visit the Takaoka City Museum.
