Day 1: Welcome to Japan!

Welcome to Japan! As you arrive in this incredible country, get ready to kick off an unforgettable adventure. You’ll be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel in Tokyo, where you can settle in and start soaking up the city vibes.
In the evening, we’ll gather for a vegan welcome dinner, your first taste of Japan’s amazing cuisine, where you can meet your fellow travellers and start making memories.

Day 2: Tokyo Food & Culture

Today is all about diving into Tokyo’s amazing food and culture scene. We’ll start with a peaceful tea ceremony where you’ll learn to make matcha the traditional way from an expert.
Later, we’ll explore the fun and busy neighbourhoods on a tour of Shinjuku, Harajuku, and Shibuya. We’ll sightsee, explore, and of course, give you the lowdown on the best vegan bites in each area.

Day 3: Vegan Cooking & Market Tour

Ready to become a Japanese food expert?
We’ll start our morning with a tour of a local market to see all the fresh, amazing vegan ingredients and local dishes Japan has to offer. Then, you’ll tie on an apron for a hands-on vegan cooking class! You’ll learn the secrets to making authentic plant-based dishes yourself, so that you can bring home the knowledge and recreate a taste of vegan Japan for family and friends.
In the evening, you’ll be able to explore the area of Asakusa to see sites like Senso-Ji temple and Nakamise shopping street.

Day 4: Kamakura's Coastal Charm

Time for a break from the big city! We’ll take a trip to the lovely coastal town of Kamakura, known for its laidback seaside town atmosphere and magnificent historic sites, including the giant bronze Great Buddha statue
We’ll stop for lunch at a cool vegan-friendly cafe (not included) near the beach and take a relaxing walk through sites such as the tall bamboo at Hokokuji temple and beautiful Hase Temple.

Day 5: Coastal Views & Exploring Enoshima

This day will be spent exploring the charming island of Enoshima, accessible via a short footbridge. We’ll ride the charming local train along the water to Enoshima, an island covered with shrines, caves, and great views of the coast, as well as so many delicious food stalls and souvenir stops.
We’ll guide you throughout the island, including into the mystical Iwaya Caves. The view from outside of the caves is particularly spectacular, and even said to be a possible location for Hokusai’s “The Great Wave Off Kanagawa”.

Day 6: Kyoto's Torii Gates and Markets

The day begins with riding Japan’s iconic bullet train to Kyoto. Once there, our first day in Kyoto starts with a visit to the incredible Fushimi Inari Shrine. You’ll walk through thousands of bright red gates that snake up the mountainside – it’s a truly magical sight.
Afterwards, we’ll explore Nishiki Market, known as “Kyoto’s Kitchen,” where you’ll be guided on the best vegan drinks, bites, and local snacks that you might want to try. That evening you’ll check into your Kyoto hotel.

Day 7: Bamboo Forests & Temple Lunch

Today we’re off to the stunning Arashiyama district on the west side of Kyoto. We’ll wander through its world-famous bamboo grove, feeling like we’ve stepped into another world.
For lunch, we have a special treat: a traditional multi-course vegan meal called shojin ryori at a peaceful temple. Afterwards, we’ll make stops at the incredible sites of Tenryuji Temple and Nijo Castle to explore.

Day 8: Nara's Deer and Uji Sightseeing

Our final full day is packed with unique experiences!
We’ll travel to Nara, first stopping to see the friendly bowing deer in Nara Park as well as the Great Buddha in Tendaiji Temple. Next, we’ll stop for a yuba (tofu skin) making lunch experience.
After our delicious handmade vegan lunch, we’ll move on to Uji, Japan’s matcha capital. We’ll explore the area, visit a local tea museum, and take in the stunning tea fields.

Day 9: Sayonara, Japan!

This is the most important part of the tour, and we take it very seriously. Every single restaurant, workshop, and tasting has been meticulously researched and vetted for its commitment to veganism. Your guide is an expert in navigating Japanese cuisine, fluent in the language, and skilled at communicating with chefs to ensure there are no hidden animal products. You can relax and enjoy everything without worry.
Will I just be eating tofu and salads for 9 days?
Absolutely not! This tour is designed to showcase the incredible diversity and creativity of vegan food in Japan. You’ll taste everything from vegan ramen and crispy tempura to wagashi sweets, multi-course kaiseki dinners, artisan tofu skin (yuba), and delicious street food. The goal is to show you just how delicious and varied vegan dining in Japan can be.
I'm not vegan. Can I join this tour?
Of course! While the tour is curated for vegans, it is a basically a Japan trip topped with delicious and innovative Japanese food that anyone can enjoy. It’s a perfect trip for anyone who simply loves great food and wants to explore Japan’s culture through its cuisine.
Do I need any cooking experience for the workshops?
No experience is necessary! The vegan cooking class and the yuba-making workshop are designed to be fun, hands-on experiences for all skill levels. You’ll be guided by expert instructors who will teach you the techniques to recreate delicious Japanese dishes back home.
