This guided bar-hopping tour helps you experience Golden Gai the right way, without the awkwardness or uncertainty first-time visitors often feel.
Itinerary
- We start with a walk through the alleys to learn the history and etiquette of this unique district.
- We visit 2 to 3 small bars that we know and trust (drinks are pay-as-you-go).
- Your guide will explain the post-war history of the area and its role in Tokyo culture.
- We finish in the area so you are free to stay longer or explore nearby Kabukicho.

Some guests come hoping to find a piece to bring home 🛍️, while others are simply keen to understand the basics 🤔. Either way, this experience offers a friendly, hands-on introduction to Japan’s most iconic clothing 🇯🇵.
Many people start out thinking they want a kimono, but after seeing the options (and all the layers! 😅), they realise that something like a haori – or even a nagajuban to wear at home as a robe – can be a more comfortable and practical choice.
Your guide will help you figure that out, sharing insights along the way – all while keeping things fun, relaxed, and tailored to your interests 🎎🧵.

Visit a mix of kimono shops (both new and second-hand). Get hands-on with fabrics, try things on if you’d like, and get clarity on what styles you actually want. Most guests don’t end up buying a full kimono – and that’s totally okay ✅.
