What do our guests say

Hiroshima is a city shaped by its history and its location on the edge of the Seto Inland Sea. For a customised private Hiroshima tour, you might want to reflect at peace memorials or take a ferry to explore quiet islands. These plans are just starting points to inspire your own trip.

Plan 1: History and Heritage (Peace Memorial Park and Hiroshima Castle)

We begin the day at the Atomic Bomb Dome. Seeing the skeletal frame of the building standing against the modern city skyline is a powerful sight. We walk through the Peace Memorial Park, where seasonal flowers are often beautifully blooming, before heading to the Memorial Cenotaph, a stone arch that frames a flickering eternal flame. If you are interested, we can also visit the Peace Memorial Museum to see the personal items and photographs that tell the story of the city’s recovery.

From the park, we take a short trip to Hiroshima Castle and its surrounding wide moat and thick stone walls. We can walk through the grounds to the nearby Gokoku Shrine, a calm spot with a large open courtyard.

To end the day, we take you to try Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. You can sit at the counter and watch the chefs layer cabbage, noodles, and pork on a hot iron grill. It is a thick, steaming meal and a local favourite.

Plan 2: Island Life and Coastal Views (Miyajima and Mount Misen)

If you prefer a day in nature, we can take a short ferry ride to Miyajima. As the boat nears the shore, the red torii gate looks like it is floating on the water. Once we land, we walk along the coast where deer often wander past the shops. We guide you through the Itsukushima Shrine, where you can hear the tide lap against the wooden floorboards.

The scent of grilled oysters and sweet momiji manju cakes always fill the narrow streets. We can stop to watch these maple-leaf shaped cakes being pressed in metal moulds and served warm. If you want to see the coast from above, we can also take the ropeway up Mount Misen. From the top, you can look out across the blue water and see many small islands. It is a quiet place to feel the sea breeze before we head back to the mainland.
