What do our guests say
Tsukiji is one of the best places in Tokyo to understand how seriously Japan takes food. The old wholesale market may have moved, but the Tsukiji Outer Market is still full of energy. The narrow lanes are packed with seafood vendors, snack stands, knife shops, tea stores, and tiny restaurants that have been feeding locals and visitors for generations.
After meeting your guide, start by walking through the busy market streets. Take in the smell of grilled seafood, the sound of vendors calling out to passers-by, and the sight of fish being sliced with incredible precision as your guide helps you move through the crowds. As a local, your guide can point out the stalls worth stopping at and explain whatever piques your interest.
Our tour is also a great opportunity for you to get a taste of Tsukiji, too. Since food and drinks are pay-as-you-go, you can decide on the day if you’d like to snack as you go or find a place to sit down for a morsel. You can keep things light with some tamagoyaki (Japanese-style egg omelette) or an onigiri, go all in on seafood and sushi, or ask your guide for recommendations based on what looks best that day.
Tsukiji also has a quieter cultural side. We can visit Namiyoke Shrine, which has long been connected with the market’s merchants and workers, and Tsukiji Hongwan-ji, a temple with a striking design that feels completely different from many other temples in Tokyo. By visiting these places on your tour, you can connect to the neighbourhood as more than just a place for some of the best seafood you’ll ever eat.
By the end of the walk, you will have spent a memorable (and delicious!) 3 hours in one of Tokyo’s most loved food areas.
