The Kanamara Matsuri is also known as the Penis Festival! Held every year in early April at Kanayama Shrine just outside Tokyo, this festival focuses on fertility, relationships, and protection from diseases. You can expect giant pink portable shrines, shaped candies, decorations, and a mix of locals and visitors enjoying a fun and lighthearted atmosphere. Gotokuji Temple in Setagaya Ward is a historic Buddhist temple known for its association with the Maneki-neko or beckoning cat figurine. These cats are considered a huge symbol of good luck and prosperity in Japanese culture! The grounds are dotted with thousands of maneki-neko statues donated by visitors seeking blessings of good fortune. They vary in size and colour but all depict a cat raising one paw.
