See the 30,000 lanterns lit up at Yasukuni Shrine for Mitama Matsuri. 🏮 It’s running from July 13th to July 16th, 2026. The shrine grounds are open late, and the lanterns are lit from sundown until 9:00 PM. Due to massive overcrowding and a few wild tourist antics (including people trying to hop into the hot springs with the macaques), starting this August, Jigokudani Monkey Park is moving to a strict online booking system and capping daily entries to two thousand visitors.If you are heading there, here are our top tips:🐵 Secure your online tickets before you travel so you do not get turned away at the gate. 🐵 No matter how cute they may look, these are wild animals. Do not touch them, do not feed them, and definitely leave the hot springs to the monkeys! 🐵 Dress appropriately for the park’s high altitude. Day 3 of our Japan adventure was absolutely packed with vibes, food, and endless neon lights. We started the morning in the peaceful greenery of Meiji Jingu Shrine to clear our heads, then headed straight to Takeshita Street for some cute snacks.After that, we wandered through the backstreets over to Shibuya for that iconic scramble shot and a bit of shopping. As soon as the sun went down, we hit up Shinjuku for the full-on nightlife experience: Omoide Yokocho, local izakayas, and drinks in Kabukicho and Golden Gai. At 120 metres tall, Ushiku Daibutsu isn't just one of Japan's tallest Buddha statues, it's one of the tallest statues on Earth!It's almost three times the height of the Statue of Liberty (excluding its pedestal). 💃 The highlight everyone is waiting for is the Yamaboko Junko, the grand procession where towering, hand-crafted floats are pulled through the streets. You can catch the Saki-matsuri (Early Festival) procession on July 17th, and the Ato-matsuri (Late Festival) procession on July 24th. Because these routes get beyond packed, watching from the crowds can be difficult.
