Every July, the streets of Hiratsuka in Kanagawa transform into a sea of colourful streamers, giant decorations, lanterns, and thousands of handwritten wishes 🇯🇵Inspired by the Japanese legend of Orihime and Hikoboshi, two lovers separated by the Milky Way who are allowed to meet just once a year, the festival celebrates hope and new beginnings.Visitors write their wishes on colourful strips of paper called tanzaku and hang them on bamboo branches 💫What makes this festival so special is the atmosphere. Starting October 1, 2026, JR Central is officially launching the "Supreme Class", which are fully private, lockable cabins right on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines.When you book this class, you get an in-room tablet to adjust the lighting, air conditioning, and even the volume of the train announcements. You also get dedicated Wi-Fi and headrest speakers that connect wirelessly to your phone. You also get a complimentary welcome drink and snack upon boarding, and access to a mobile ordering system to purchase exclusive regional treats and craft alcohol not available to the rest of the train. 🥂😌You can book Car 10 for a single-occupancy solo oasis, or Car 7 for a larger duo cabin that includes a comfortable sofa-style seat.💸 For a one-way trip between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka, a Car 10 solo cabin costs ¥42,390, and a Car 7 cabin costs ¥60,790. On May 29th, Japan's House of Councillors officially passed a bill approving JESTA (Japan Electronic System for Travel). It means that short-term travellers will need to apply for approval to enter Japan in advance, instead of when they actually enter the country (like the current system).If you have an upcoming trip to Japan, don't worry! Nothing is changing immediately, and you don't need to apply for a JESTA just yet.
