At 120 metres tall, Ushiku Daibutsu isn't just one of Japan's tallest Buddha statues, it's one of the tallest statues on Earth!It's almost three times the height of the Statue of Liberty (excluding its pedestal). 💃 The highlight everyone is waiting for is the Yamaboko Junko, the grand procession where towering, hand-crafted floats are pulled through the streets. You can catch the Saki-matsuri (Early Festival) procession on July 17th, and the Ato-matsuri (Late Festival) procession on July 24th. Because these routes get beyond packed, watching from the crowds can be difficult. After three years of restoration, Dazaifu Tenmangu is open again!.This marks the shrine’s first major renovation in 124 years 👀During the renovation, visitors worshipped at the now-famous temporary hall designed by renowned architect Sou Fujimoto, complete with a living forest growing on its roof. It quickly became an architectural icon in its own right, but its role has now come to an end, with the rooftop trees being replanted throughout the shrine grounds.Dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of learning, culture and art, Dazaifu Tenmangu is one of Japan’s most significant shrines and a must-visit if you’re exploring Kyushu. Every July, the streets of Hiratsuka in Kanagawa transform into a sea of colourful streamers, giant decorations, lanterns, and thousands of handwritten wishes 🇯🇵Inspired by the Japanese legend of Orihime and Hikoboshi, two lovers separated by the Milky Way who are allowed to meet just once a year, the festival celebrates hope and new beginnings.Visitors write their wishes on colourful strips of paper called tanzaku and hang them on bamboo branches 💫What makes this festival so special is the atmosphere.
